CIVIC THEATRE CELEBRATES 90th BIRTHDAY WITH SPECIAL TOUR

For the first time ever, Novacastrians will be granted exclusive access to the Civic Theatre and City Hall in celebration of the site’s 90th birthday.

Guided tours will give locals the chance to see the inner workings of the building, including sites like the Lord Mayor’s office and Council Chambers.

There will also be an historical exhibition in the Cummings Room with the screening of a rare silent film which was commissioned in the 1930s.

Local historian, Sue Ryan, will also be there to answer any questions.

Newcastle Lord Mayor, Nuatali Nelmes said the tour offered locals a fantastic chance to learn more about their city.

“Our 90th anniversary celebrations are an opportunity to show residents and visitors aspects of both venues they have never seen before,” said Cr Nelmes.

“City Hall and the Civic Theatre are beautiful buildings which are part of the cultural and civic fabric of our city”

And if history isn’t your thing, there’ll be a number family-friendly activities run in Wheeler Place, including a circus skills workshops, face-painting and giant wooden games.

Bookings aren’t essential but those whoe are interested are encouraged to arrive early.

It all kicks off at midday on Sunday 1st of March.
