COUNCIL TO INVEST $100 THOUSAND INTO EMERGENCY WATER SUPPLY PLAN

Tamworth Regional Council has unanimously voted to invest $100 thousand into the development of a plan for an emergency water supply.

The recommended proposal will identify all viable water options for Tamworth, Moonbi and Kootingal should Chaffey Dam run dry.

Groundwater drilling and recycled water are two hypothetical options on the list.

“The objective of this plan is to say that, if it doesn’t rain and we don’t get any inflow, when do we think the dam will reach dead storage? What options would we have to avoid that from happening and to find other supplies for Tamworth?”

The plan will be presented back to Council in the coming weeks.
