A Chinese national has died in a paragliding accident at Mount Borah, near Manilla, in north west New South Wales.
The 59-year-old from Hong Kong reportedly crashed just after 2 o’clock this afternoon.
It’s understood the man encountered turbulence mid flight, before getting into a spiral and crashing heavily on top of the mountain.
Two ambulance crews and the Westpac helicopter were called to the scene and assessed the man who was conscious and breathing.
Around half an hour after the crash, the man began complaining of back and shoulder injuries before his condition rapidly deteriorated.
He was pronounced deceased an hour and a half after impact.
A paragliding competition named Manilla XC Camp, has been held on the slope since the weekend.
The event is described on Fly Manilla’s website as “a free event for XC pilots of all levels.”
