MID COAST DRIVER CHARGED OVER HIGH SPEED PURSUIT

A Taree man will face court today, after allegedly reaching speeds of more than 200km/h near Kempsey yesterday.

Just before 6pm, officers noticed the driver travelling double the speed limit in an 80km/h zone at Rainbow Beach.

Police tried to stop the BMW, but the man continued at speed, and a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit was terminated when police lost sight of the car, but it was later spotted on Boyters Lane.

The 31-year-old was arrested, later returning a positive breath test of 0.212.

His driving privileges have been suspended in New South Wales, and the vehicle was also taken away.

He’ll appear in Port Macquarie Local Court later today.
