GAV’S WEATHER | WEEKEND WEATHER EVENT EXPLAINED

The weekend weather event was rare, as it wasn’t a typical north west moisture feed.

It directly came out of the north, putting the Greater Hunter into a rain shadow situation being south of the Barringtons.

The moisture feed then did something very rare, moving to the north east, drawing massive amounts of moisture off the Coral Seas before dumping it on the Gold Coast; 200 to 350mm, and then the Northern Rivers 100 to 150mm in 24 hours.

By the time it reached the Hunter, sadly, there was nothing left in it.

The Gold Coast and Northern Rivers will see more storms tomorrow as the hot, dry weather returns elsewhere across the region in the coming days.
