A Hunter man has been charged with raping an eight-year-old girl multiple times.
Detectives launched an investigation this month, following reports a young girl was being sexually abused by a man known to her.
Following extensive inquiries, detectives arrested a 60-year-old man at a Hunter home on Monday afternoon.
Police allege the man sexually abused the young girl numerous times over the past year at a Raymond Terrace home.
He has been charged with three counts of sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 10 years, intentionally sexually touching a child under 10 years, and intentionally inciting a child under 10 years to sexually touch them.
The man was refused bail and will appear at Raymond Terrace Local Court on Tuesday.
Investigations are continuing.
