A house has gone up in flames near Muswellbrook in the Hunter Valley.
Emergency services responded to reports of a house fire with people trapped inside shortly before midnight.
When they arrived, the property was fully alight.
Power lines to the house had been damaged and there were live ones strewn across the driveway.
Thankfully, the man who lives there had woken to the sound of his smoke alarm going off and evacuated.
He was treated at the scene and transferred to Muswellbrook hospital.
The house was totally destroyed and a neighbouring property suffered heat damage.
