HOT, WINDY WEATHER PROMPTS FRESH FIRE WARNING FROM AUTHORITIES

A Watch & Act alert has been issued on Saturday morning for a Port Stephens bushfire, burning east of Medowie in Moffats Swamp.

The NSW RFS is being supported by aircraft to slow the spread of the 8-hectare fire, which is being controlled.

New South Wales is on high alert with dangerous fire conditions and severe weather warnings in place for much of the state.

A total fire ban has been declared for the Greater Sydney Region, Greater Hunter, Central Ranges and North Western regions today – with hot and windy conditions already expected to cause issues for fire and emergency crews.

Temperatures are expected to reach into the low 30s today and air quality is still affected by the smoke haze blanketing many regions.

Thunderstorms are forecast to roll in this afternoon which could cause issues for residents still without power from a severe storm earlier in the week.
