In the Hunter, students had originally planned to stage a sit-down strike in the office of the Member of Newcastle…but there wasn’t enough room.
Instead they took their protest to Civic Park, waving signs calling for urgent climate action.
While there were no chants, there was plenty of emotion – particularly over the loss of native wildlife in the bushfire crisis.
In recent months, blazes have threatened homes at North Rothbury, Greta and Belmont.
