BUSHFIRE JUMPS PACIFIC HIGHWAY NEAR MACLEAN

Today’s milder conditions have brought little relief for fire crews on the north coast, with the Myall Creek Road blaze back at Emergency level.

The fire is spreading quickly towards Jacky Bulbin Flat, Tullymorgan and Mororo.

Authorities say people should leave now if the path is clear, while those in the Whiporie area should monitor conditions.

The Pacific Highway is closed in both directions between Grafton and Ballina, after the blaze jumped the highway just north of Maclean.

The Summerland Way also remains closed.

An evacuation centre has been set up at Woodburn Evans Head RSL.
