TAMWORTH’S BICENTENNIAL PARK TO TURN “BATTY” TOMORROW NIGHT

Tamworth’s Bicentennial Park will turn bat-crazy tomorrow night, for the city’s first ever “Bat Night”.

The event aims to educate the public about the benefits flying foxes have on the environment.

Council kicked off the campaign last week, with “Frankie The Flying Fox” paying a special visit to a Tamworth preschool.

“Bat night’s being held because the flying foxes basically get a bad wrap, I suppose. They’re seen as being noisy and smelly… People don’t fully understand the significance that they play in our ecology.”

Dance numbers, Aboriginal storytelling and even a bat release will be held during the evening.

It all gets underway at 5 o’clock tomorrow afternoon.
