STATE OPPOSITION LEADER DEMANDS “CATASTROPHIC EROSION” AT STOCKTON FIXED

Jodi McKay was back on familiar soil, taking time out of her parliamentary schedule to inspect Stockton’s crumbling coastline.

The New South Wales Opposition Leader, along with Newcastle MP Tim Crakanthorp, met with around 100 concerned residents on Wednesday morning.

The seaside suburb’s only childcare centre was forcibly shut down earlier this month due to large and powerful swells, which continue to eat away at the coastline.

Stockton’s historic Surf Life Saving Club is now also at risk.

Ms McKay said she’d travelled up the Pacific Highway to demand the Berejiklian Government take immediate action.

“The Government’s neglect of one of Newcastle’s beloved beaches is unacceptable.”

“If this happened at Bondi or Manly, the Government would move quickly to fix it,” Ms McKay said.

Labor has proposed a three-step plan which includes the appointment of a State Recovery Coordinator to manage a whole-of-government response to the unfolding crisis.

Reporter Sam Burbury will have more on this story tonight in NBN News.
