Bushfires are burning across New South Wales, with at least three homes destroyed at Tenterfield in the far north.

An emergency level warning has been issued for the area south west of the town.

It’s being fanned by gusty north-westerly winds and has impacted Laird Street, Francis Street, King Lane, Scott Lane and Trail Lane.

There are reports at least one home has been destroyed.

Residents in the path of the fire should seek shelter as the front approaches.

The New England Highway is closed in both directions near Clifton Street.

An Evacuation Centre has been established at Tenterfield Showgrounds at 62 Miles St.

It is open until 11pm this evening, and will open again tomorrow from 7am.

A 65-year-old firefighter had to be airlifted to hospital after he suffered serious burns while working to contain the blaze.

He was transported by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to Royal Brisbane Hospital in a serious condition.

A second emergency warning has been issued for a fire near Ebor, north east of Armidale, with a number of remote properties under threat.

Residents on Goddards Road and Waterfall Way should seek shelter as the front approaches.

There’s also an emergency warning in place at Drake, where fire has scorched more than 150 hectares.

The fire has crossed Long Gully Road and is moving in an easterly direction toward the Clarence River.

Residents in Ewingar, Tilbaroo and areas on the western side of the Clarence River should seek shelter as the fire approaches.
