A young man has been airlifted to hospital after he was washed onto rocks while surfing on the Central Coast.
The 19-year-old was flown to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital with suspected spinal injuries as a result of the accident at Bateau Bay.
CRACKNECK LOOKOUT A male patient have been flown to the John Hunter hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service – Official Site after landing on the rocks at the bottom of Crackneck Lookout at Bateau Bay while surfing. Central Coast Rescue crews, NSW Ambulance paramedics and NSW Police Force where tasked to assist the surfer on the rocks who had suffered possible spinal injuries. The Westpac helicopter was able to successfully winch the patient off the rocks and transport them to hospital in a stable condition. #vrarescue

Earlier in the day, a woman in her 40s was left with head and spinal injuries after she was struck by a surfboard at Umina Beach.
The woman was pulled from the water by fellow beachgoers, before being flown to Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital
She was reported to be in a stable condition.
