SURFER RECOVERING AFTER BEING WASHED ONTO ROCKS AT BATEAU BAY

A young man has been airlifted to hospital after he was washed onto rocks while surfing on the Central Coast.

The 19-year-old was flown to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital with suspected spinal injuries as a result of the accident at Bateau Bay.

Earlier in the day, a woman in her 40s was left with head and spinal injuries after she was struck by a surfboard at Umina Beach.

The woman was pulled from the water by fellow beachgoers, before being flown to Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital

She was reported to be in a stable condition.
