MAN ARRESTED AFTER BECOMING STUCK ALONGSIDE MACLEAY RIVER

A 35-year-old man, who became stuck in dense vegetation while attempting to run from police has been charged.

Officers stopped a Holden Astra on Lord Street at Kempsey on Monday afternoon, when they attempted to arrest a man who was believed to have been in breach of an AVO.

It’s alleged during the arrest, the Taree man struck an officer with his arm, before running from the scene.

He was later found stranded down a steep embankment alongside the Macleay River, where he was arrested without incident.
