PURSUIT REACHES SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 200KM/H NEAR TWEED HEADS
Police have charged the driver of a Toyota Camry, after he was allegedly caught travelling at more than 200km/h on the state’s north coast.
Officers spotted the sedan on the Pacific Highway at Sleepy Hollow south of Tweed Heads on Friday evening, when it was detected travelling at 203km/h in a 110km/h zone.
Attempts to stop the Toyota proved unsuccessful, with the driver seen to overtake more than a dozen cars during a 22-kilometre pursuit.
The driver, a 17-year-old, was eventually arrested after he lost control of the car and crashed into a series of road signs at the Chinderah Road exit.
He’s set to face a children’s court later in August, having been granted conditional bail.
His P1 provisional licence was also suspended for six months.
