FIVE INJURED AS DIESEL HEATER EXPLODES NORTH OF NEWCASTLE

Two people have been left in a critical condition after a diesel heater exploded at Medowie north of Newcastle.

Three others suffered serious burns in the incident at a home on Carnoustie Way at around 8:30 on Saturday evening.

A 50-year-old Medowie man, along with a 42-year-old woman from Corlette were flown to Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.

The remaining three were taken to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital for treatment.

It’s understood the explosion occurred while the heater was being re-fuelled.
