POLICE DOG VAN RAMMED BY STOLEN CAR ON MID NORTH COAST

A man has been charged after a Dog Unit van was rammed by a stolen car at Nambucca Heads on Tuesday.

Three fully-marked police cars, including a Dog Unit, were patrolling Nambucca Train Station around 7:30pm, when a suspected stolen Subaru WRX entered the carpark.

The driver reversed the car as the officers walked towards the Subaru, forcing police to act.

The Dog Unit van attempted to follow the Subaru, but the driver allegedly accelerated, ramming into the driver’s side of the police car.

The officer suffered minor injuries, and the police dogs were unharmed.

The 29-year-old fled the carpark in the Subaru, and was found two days later carrying 1.95 grams of methylamphetamine (ice) at Sapphire Beach.

He’s been charged with a string of offences, including car theft, drug possession and reckless driving.

He was refused bail to appear at Coffs Harbour Local Court on Friday.
