WOMAN AIRLIFTED AFTER BOAT FLIPS SOUTH OF PORT MACQUARIE

A 34-year-old woman has been flown to hospital, after she was washed onto rocks when a boat flipped on the Mid North Coast.

The boat ended up on rocks along the break wall at the opening of the Camden Haven River.

It’s understood the vessel was struck by a large wave while preparing to enter the inlet at Camden Haven, at around 7:20 on Monday morning.

The woman and a 42-year-old man, who was also onboard, were thrown into the water.

He was rescued and taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital for treatment, while the woman remained stranded on the southern break wall rocks.

Multiple agencies were involved in the rescue, which lasted several hours.

A helicopter winched the woman to safety almost three hours after she first became trapped.

She’s been flown to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital, having suffered multiple injuries.
