ABORIGINAL BIRTHS SKY ROCKET IN NSW
The number of new bubs born to Indigenous parents in New South Wales has climbed 53-percent in the last year.
Kamilaroi man Lenny Waters says counting Indigenous births is important for the future of Aboriginal Australians.
“It’s vital to have this recognition because it give us a platform to work on in relation to how we design things for our city and the different types of programs.”
It stems from the recent ‘Our Kids Count’ initiative which encouraged Indigenous parents to register their babies with Births, Deaths and Marriages.
