ALLEGED DRUNK MOTHER CRASHES WITH BABY IN CAR NEAR BALLINA

A 27-year-old woman, who was allegedly drunk behind the wheel when she crashed her car with a 5-month-old baby onboard has been charged.

Both the mother and child escaped injury in the crash on Evans Head Broadwater Road just before 4 o’clock on Monday afternoon.

Police have been told the woman crashed into a roadworks sign and crossed to the wrong side of the road, before driving down an embankment on her way to collect her second child from school.

Following the crash, she was taken to Ballina Police Station where she returned a breath test result of 0.171.

She’s set to face court next month, having been charged with high-range drink driving.

Her licence was also suspended.
