FREEZING START ACROSS THE STATE AS WEEK OF COLD WEATHER SETS IN

It was a freezing start across much of the state this morning, with many towns in the north west recording temperatures well below zero.

Residents at Gunnedah had cause to pull on another blanket, as the mercury fell to -4 just before sunrise.

Further down the Valley at Merriwa, all the gauge could muster at 7 o’clock was -5.4 degrees.

The brisk conditions are the result of a high pressure system hovering over the south east, keeping the skies clear and winds light.

Conditions along the coast are set to deteriorate on Saturday, as southerly winds and coastal showers set in.

The cool conditions have proved a wonderland for photographers.

‎Vicki Newling‎ sharing this photo with us from Scone in the Hunter Valley writing on Facebook, “thought I’d share a picture I took this morning after leaving my hose on overnight here at Kars Springs near Scone.”

Records were shattered on Friday, as Narrabri recorded its coldest morning in 17-years.

While Moree recorded its coldest morning in 22-years, with a minimum temperature of -3.8 degrees.

Further records are expected to be broken.
