SEARCH FOR MISSING BACKPACKER ENTERS THIRD DAY

The large scale search for missing backpacker Theo Hayez on the north coast has entered its third day.

Crews have now shifted their focus to an area closer to where the 18-year-old was staying, after an earlier search in bushland near the Cape Byron Lighthouse turned up no sign of the missing Belgian national.

Theo was last seen leaving a night club late on May 31, and was later reported missing after he failed to check out of his hostel.

His passport and personal belongings were all found inside his room.

SES, alongside local police are now scouring land around Belongil, where the 18-year-old was staying.

Hayez is described as being of Caucasian appearance, around 180 to 190cm tall with a thin build and blond hair.

He was last seen wearing a black hooded jumper, beige pants and black shoes.

Anyone with information should contact police.
