WOMAN CHARGED IN RELATION TO DEATH OF SIX-MONTH-OLD IN NEWCASTLE

A 26-year-old woman has been charged with child abuse offences, over the death of a six-month-old boy in the Newcastle suburb of New Lambton earlier this year.

The woman was arrested in Sydney on Thursday, before being charged with three offences including failure to provide for a child causing danger of death.

The six-month-old died in Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital on February 10, just a day after he’d gone into cardiac arrest at a home in New Lambton.

A post mortem found the child had died as a result of a traumatic head injury.

A 28-year-old man has has previously been charged in relation to the death.

He remains before the courts.
