WOMAN KILLED IN BELMONT NORTH CRASH

UPDATE | A woman has been charged following an investigation into a fatal two-car crash in Lake Macquarie earlier this year.

ORIGINAL STORY | Southbound lanes of the Pacific Highway at Belmont North remain closed, after a 50-year-old woman was killed in a head-on collision.

Emergency services rushed to the scene near the intersection of Avonlea Street at around 7:30 on Monday morning, after reports a southbound Ford Falcon had collided head on with a Mitsubishi Colt.

The driver of the Mitsubishi died at the scene, while the woman behind the wheel of the Falcon was taken to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital.

The highway is expected to remain closed for some time, as crash investigators work to determine what led to the crash.

City bound traffic is reduced to one lane, while motorists heading south are being diverted via Ntaba Road.
