JETS CONFIRM O’DONOVAN TO DEPART

Star striker Roy O’Donovan won’t return to the Newcastle Jets for the 2019/20 A-League season.

CEO Lawrie McKinna confirmed the decision to withdraw the club’s offer for the Irishman on Monday, after protracted negotiations broke down.

“We were close on a number of occasions, but unfortunately from our perspective the goal posts continued to shift,” said McKinna.

O’Donovan missed a total of 12 matches through suspension during his two-year stint in the Hunter, with the 33-year-old’s playing future now unclear.

“Roy is a top professional and a good family man, he’ll be an asset wherever he ends up and everyone at the Club wishes him well,” added McKinna.
