MAITLAND MEASLES WARNING

New South Wales Health has issued its second measles warning in 24 hours, this time for people in the Lower Hunter and Sydney areas.

It comes after a university student, who was unknowingly infectious at the time, visited several locations including Marcellin Park, the Maitland Hospital Emergency Department and the Rutherford Homemakers Centre.

The Department of Health is urging people in the area to be on the lookout for symptoms until at least April 23, 2019.

Symptoms include fever, sore eyes and a cough followed by a red spotty rash.

Earlier today, the Northern New South Wales Local Heath District issued another warning after an infected tourist travelled through Casino.

There have now been 35 confirmed measles cases in New South Wales since Christmas.
