A Newcastle primary school has been placed in lockdown, after a man climbed onto the roof of St Joseph’s Merewether at around 1:30 this afternoon.
Police responded and students were sent home early tonight, a stand-off continues.
“Cornered the man on the roof where he remains, police are currently negotiating with him,” said Insp. Buggy, Newcastle Police.
Parts of Union Street remain closed.
