GUNNEDAH SET TO RECEIVE $400,000 WORTH OF STANDPIPES

A council initative aiming to help members of the Gunnedah community has been launched, with $400,000 allocated to place standpipes throughout the town’s shire.

The investment is part of a $1-million funding scheme delivered to drought-affected communities by the Federal Government.

Gunnedah Mayor, Jamie Chaffey, says the project will follow Tamworth’s lead in allowing struggling residents greater access to domestic water use.

“It means that we can react much quicker, once they’re installed, to those people that are really affected by drought, and that’s an important thing, we thought, to make sure we’re better prepared.”

The project is expected to be complete by the end of the financial year.
