The Hunter Business Chamber is demanding the state government urgently clarify its plans, for the former BHP Steelworks site.
It comes after the Hunter Development Corporation rejected an offer made by the Port of Newcastle, to buy the remediated land.
“If the Port of Newcastle’s offer’s not good enough, let’s get it out there to the open market, and see what else is out there. This site is not only going to be of interest to people in this region and, and New South Wales, but I suspect Australia and probably internationally.”
The chamber says re-purposing the site is necessary to create jobs.
