FORMER NORTH COAST PRIEST CHARGED WITH HISTORIC SEXUAL ABUSE OF BOY

A former priest who worked on the north coast in the 1970s has been charged with the historic sex abuse of a teenage boy.

Last year, the Richmond Police District received a complaint about the abuse of a 13-year-old school boy back in 1978.

In August they commenced investigations, and now allege the boy was befriended by the priest during high school scripture and piano classes, and was later assaulted.

Detectives from Richmond travelled to the home of the now 85-year-old former priest at Stockton, Newcastle yesterday.

He was charged with buggery and will face Newcastle Local Court on Thursday May 2nd.
