HOUSE DAMAGED BY LIGHTNING STRIKE AT HAMILTON SOUTH

Heavy rain battered parts of the Hunter overnight, but it seems a home in Hamilton South copped the worst of it.

Fire and Rescue crews were called to a two-storey house after it had been struck by lightning.

When they arrived, smoke was pouring out of the roof.

The lightning strike blew a hole through the ceiling and ruptured a water pipe.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the small blaze before it spread and thankfully no one was home at the time.
