MAN EVADES POLICE BY JUMPING IN TWEED RIVER

A man has been arrested after allegedly jumping into the Tweed River overnight, to avoid police.

officers were called to a caravan park on Dry Dock Road just before 7 o’clock.

It’s alleged the 26-year-old jumped into the water, swimming away from shore, sparking a massive air search with the help of polair.

The man was found on Boyds Island where he was arrested and charged with a string of domestic violence offences.

He was granted strict bail to appear before Tweed Heads Local court later this month.
