RODNEY JOHNSON SENTENCED OVER SINGLETON TRUCK RAMPAGE

The man behind the wheel of a truck which ploughed through the Hunter Valley town of Singleton in 2017 has been sentenced in a Newcastle Court.

Rodney Johnson will spend a minimum of 6-years and 6-months in jail over the rampage, during which he stole a truck and led police on a wild chase, before coming to grief in a fiery crash.

Judge Gartlemann SC, described Johnson’s driving as “staggeringly dangerous”, saying “it is astonishing that no one was killed.”

Eight people were injured in the incident.

Given time already served, Johnson will be eligible for parole in October 2024.
