MAN CHARGED OVER STOLEN VEHICLE PURSUIT IN WALLSEND

A 24-year-old man has been charged and two others remain on the run after a police pursuit through Wallsend this morning.

Officers were alerted to an allegedly stolen white Ford Maverick not bearing registration plates shortly after 7am.

Police, including the dog squad, attended the scene on Stapleton Street and attempted to stop the vehicle.

The driver refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated along a bush track towards Lake Road.

Dogs searched bushland near Edgeworth for three offenders and a 24-year-old man was later arrested and taken to Waratah Police Station.

He’s been charged with trespass and being carried in a conveyance without consent.

The stolen vehicle was also recovered.

PolAir continued to search bushland for a second man and a woman, who are still on the run.

Police believe the woman had lost her thongs, was barefoot and likely injured.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
