OFFICERS ASSAULTED NEAR CESSNOCK

Two police officers have been assaulted while attempting to arrest a man near Cessnock.

The pair had attempted to stop an unregistered motorcycle at Aberdare just after 6 o’clock on Friday morning, when it’s alleged the rider sped off.

He later crashed into the front of a police car, and fled the scene on foot.

Officers managed to track down the man nearby, where it’s alleged he then assaulted the pair.

Both were treated for minor injuries.

The motorbike rider was charged with 15 offences including dealing with the proceeds of crime.
