TWO ARRESTED AFTER POLICE CHASE IN STOLEN CAR

Two people are in custody after a police chase through a number of Newcastle suburbs this morning.

It began at Hamilton shortly before 9am when police attempted to pull over a black Volkswagen Amarok that had been reported stolen.

Witnesses have said they saw the car driving erratically through the streets of several suburbs.

The chase came to a halt in Waratah when the driver reportedly hit a gutter and a police car at the intersection of Platt and Ada Streets.

Both drivers’ side wheels were destroyed.

The man and his female passenger were arrested at the scene and taken to Waratah Police Station for questioning.
