MAN CHARGED OVER ALLEGED ASSAULT WHICH LEFT KNIGHTS PLAYER WITH BROKEN LEG

A man has been charged over the alleged assault of a Newcastle Knights player, outside the Greenroof Hotel on Sunday morning.

Police say the pair were involved in an altercation just after 2am, which left Jacob Saifiti in hospital with a broken leg.

Saifiti has since undergone surgery and remains in John Hunter Hospital.

A 28-year-old man from Adamstown was charged on Wednesday with reckless grievous bodily harm.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on January 10.
