SEVENTH HEAVEN FOR STEPH GILMORE

Australia’s Steph Gilmore has claimed a record equalling seventh world surfing title.

The Tweed Heads local dominated her round one heat at the Maui Pro in Hawaii yesterday, with her only remaining challenger Lakey Peterson knocked out in the second round.

Peterson’s exit from the event secured the natural footer the title, which she last won in 2014.

The only other female surfer to lift the trophy on seven occasions was fellow Aussie Layne Beachley.
