RISING NUMBER OF ASSAULTS PUTS PRESSURE ON PARAMEDICS

Delegates from the Paramedics Union say there are some areas of the New England they simply won’t visit, because of the rising number of assaults.

They’re also concerned the figures could deter people from taking up the life-saving profession in the region.

“For people entering the profession it might be something that they would consider because with the increasing incidents of violence against paramedics, unfortunately some paramedics are paying a career ending price,” Scott Clarke, union delegate New England Zone APA NSW.

The union says it supports the introduction of bodycams, to hopefully hold offenders to account.

“We’re very pleased that the government and the Ambulance Chief Executive have come out and said that they would support paramedics who make the decision to stand off a scene and not enter if we deem the scene unsafe.”
