BALL TAMPERING BANS TO REMAIN IN PLACE

The bans imposed on cricketers Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft will stand, despite calls for the trio to return sooner.

Cricket Australia’s board met on Monday to consider a submission from the Australian Cricketers’ Association to overturn the penalties, which were handed down in the wake of the ball tampering incident at Cape Town earlier this year.

However, the board determined the sanctions remained an appropriate response to the incident.

The decision means Smith & Warner will be eligible to return once the summer of cricket has been completed, while Bancroft will be eligible to play for the Perth Scorchers in their December 30 Big Bash League fixture.
