NEW HURDLE FOR HISTORIC COTTAGE WITH BREATHTAKING VIEWS

  1. Preserving this historic building is a good thing.
    However if “pre-dating the Federation of Australia” is a mentionable factor in driving the protection of a heritage building, why did the Lord Mayor and Councillors (bar one) so easily let The Store building go to the wall without a word? The centre section of the frontage being demolished right now was built in 1898.
    There is too little heritage being protected in Newcastle and attention to heritage protection must extend beyond the newly branded real estate zone called the “East End”.
    Newcastle is becoming unrecognisable – in all the wrong ways.
