TOWNSVILLE FIRE SLIP TO SIXTH IN WNBL

The Hunter’s Suzy Batkovic and her Townsville Fire, have plenty of work to do if they’re going to defend their WNBL title, slipping to sixth on the ladder following a loss to Melbourne in round five.

The news was better for fellow locals Katie Rae Ebzery and Maddi Allen, as they led Perth to a win over Hannah Young’s Canberra Capitals.

Ebzery finished with 10 points and eight rebounds, while Allen was solid in defence.

Meanwhile, Cassidy McLean and her Bendigo Spirit held on to beat the Sydney Uni Flames this afternoon.

Locked at 64-all, Bendigo won in the final five seconds.
