UNIT ON FIRE AT MEREWETHER

Firefighters have responded to a blaze at a Department of Housing unit in Merewether.

Fire and rescue crews were called out just after 3pm to the three-bedroom unit on Watkins Street, to see flames and smoke coming from the third floor.

The fire has since been contained, but not before it spread into the ceiling space.

The building was evacuated and one person has been treated for minor burns to their arm.
