AUS DAY CITIZENSHIP BATTLE: ALL A MISUNDERSTANDING

Byron Shire Council has NOT abandoned its decision to move its Australia Day celebrations, despite claims by the Prime Minister that it has.

Mayor Simon Richardson says festivities have been scheduled for January 25, 2019 – and that hasn’t changed.

However the Shire’s citizenship ceremony was always to be held on January 26, and Councillor Richardson says that may have caused some confusion.

Scott Morrison has threatened to strip council of its citizenship powers over its decision.
