SUBARU SUBMARINE AT SHELLY BEACH

Beachgoers at a popular Mid-North Coast beach have been treated to the unusual site of a car driving around in the water.

It’s been reported a 39-year-old Port Macquarie man drove his silver Suburu on to the sand and into the water at Shelly Beach earlier this week.

The driver allegedly returned a negative breath test, and told police “he just wanted to wash his tyres”. He will likely be charged under the Local Government Act.

It’s believed the vehicle could not be restarted after leaving the water. Video courtesy James Godfrey.
