MAN CHARGED OVER ATTEMPTED CHILD GROOMING IN THE HUNTER

A 42-year-old man has been refused bail, after allegedly trying to groom a young girl for sex online.

Detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad began engaging online with a Hunter man in July.

Police will allege he believed he was speaking with a 14-year-old girl, and engaged in highly-sexualised conversations.

The 42-year-old was arrested at a Salamander Bay shopping centre on Thursday.

Two laptops and a storage device were also seized from a Tanilba Bay home.
