PORT STEPHENS COUNCIL APPLIES TO SKYROCKET RATES

Port Stephens residents are in line to cop a 7.5 per cent rate rise per year, over the next seven years.

The council resolved to apply to the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal at Tuesday night’s meeting, after two months of community consultation.

Despite opposition from some residents, Port Stephens Council says it cannot provide the projects it wants, with its current income.

The extra funds would be used to improve road safety, drainage and other infrastructure.
