MAN CHARGED OVER FATAL CRASH ON STOCKTON BRIDGE

A 46-year-old Belmont North man has been charged in relation to a fatal multi-vehicle crash on the Stockton bridge in August.

He attended Newcastle Police Station on Monday morning, where Crash Investigation Unit officers arrested him.

He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death and cause bodily harm by misconduct.

On August 21, emergency services were called to the Stockton Bridge on Nelson Bay Road at Fern Bay, after reports of a four-vehicle crash.

Police have been told a Ford Falcon sedan collided with a Toyota Camry, both travelling south, before the Falcon hit an oncoming XR6 utility, which then collided with a BMW sedan which was also travelling north.

The utility caught fire and the driver, a 57-year-old man from Tanilba Bay, suffered critical burns and died at the scene.

The driver of the Falcon sedan, a 46-year-old man, and the driver of the BMW, a 68-year-old man, were taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.

The Belmont North man has been granted conditional bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on November 15.
