MORE DRONES PATROLLING LOCAL BEACHES THIS SUMMER

Newcastle’s coastline will have an extra pair of eyes in the sky this summer, with drones to scout the waters and assist lifeguards at Redhead and Birubi beaches.

It’s part of the state government’s drone program, to identify potential risks from above.

The increased surveillance hopes to monitor drownings faster and provide more data about shark behaviour.

Trials will commence in November and continue until April next year.
